Agreement between Barcelona City Council and the Generalitat to create a research and care support centre
The new space will be located in the Almogàvers Incubator and will focus on improving care for elderly and dependent people
Barcelona, 31 May 2024
Barcelona City Council and the Department of Social Rights of the Generalitat de Catalunya have today signed a collaboration protocol with the aim of promoting a new centre focused on the care economy sector. The two institutions will work with the economic fabric to make the current model of care for the elderly and dependent people more competitive.
The agreement was made official by the councillor for Economic Promotion and Work, Feminisms, Equality and Democratic Memory of the City Council, Raquel Gil, and the secretary general of the Department of Social Rights, Oriol Amorós i March. The collaboration will seek to boost the care sector to provide an efficient response to the growing demand. The processes of technological innovation and the improvement in the quality of employment will be enhanced to guarantee good care for the elderly and those in a situation of dependency.
The space will incorporate a laboratory with the capacity to innovate and test new models in the provision of care. The research centre will be installed in the current Almogàvers Incubator, which has 5,000 m2 located at Calle Almogàvers 165 in the Sant Martí district. The entrepreneurship services offered at the facility will be moved to other spaces that Barcelona Activa has distributed throughout the city.
