Barcelona City Council presents a reform of the economic and urban planning project of the 22@ innovation district, with the aim of creating new homes and jobs
Barcelona, 10 Feb 2022
Barcelona City Council has presented the modification of the Metropolitan General Plan of the new economic and urban hub of the city, the 22@ innovation district. The new project has an area of 1,000 square metres, which will offer more than 60,000 new jobs and more than 8,000 new homes, most of them social. At the moment, in 22@ there are 115,000 people working in 11,500 companies, which represents 11% of the city's economic activities.
Apart from the creation of new quality jobs and affordable housing, the aim of the new economic hub is to strengthen the productive fabric of the city. An initiative that will expand the uses and activities related to sports, culture, education, artistic creation, the social and solidarity economy and the green economy. The new 22@ district continues to turn this area into an innovative and benchmark district for urban regeneration, more inclusive, productive and sustainable.
To ensure that the plan is deployed as quickly and efficiently as possible, since the end of 2020, the Technical Office of 22@ has been up and running. A municipal space, located in the OAE-MediaTIC (The Business Support Office), which acts as a one-stop shop where attention is focused on companies and citizens in the economic, urban and socio-cultural field of the 22@ district.
