The City Council and 6 local venture capital funds will invest 50 million Euros in emerging companies
Through the initiative Barcelona Accelera, the investments will be aimed at companies from the metropolitan area and preferably led by women
Barcelona, 11 Mar 2021
Barcelona City Council, through Barcelona Activa, has launched the measure Barcelona Accelera. With an initial municipal provision of 10 million Euros, the City Council and 6 local venture capital funds will invest 50 million Euros in emerging companies from Barcelona with the aim of reactivating the city’s economy and boosting the entrepreneurial ecosystem.
The venture capital funds are a suitable type of funding for emerging companies with a high potential for growth. The funds participate directly in the capital of the company on a temporary basis and enable the rapid growth of these start-ups.
Out of the 10 fund managers and funds submitted to the bid, based in Barcelona, the following funds, who have fulfilled the requirements, have been selected: Aldea Iberia Tech, 4founders Capital II, SC Growth Fund II Plus, Sabadell Asabys Health Innovation Investment, Invivo Ventures and The Extension Fund.
This formula will allow around 150 emerging companies in the city to gain access to more capital and continue to innovate and expand into local and international markets. These will necessarily be companies from strategic sectors of the metropolitan area of the city defined in the new economic agenda of Barcelona 2020-2030, the Barcelona Green Deal, and at least 10 million Euros will be invested in companies led by women.
